Duncan Weller - Abstracts

Whether the result is a finished painting or pollution, the act loosens me up. I can play with colours, shapes and subjects with abandon. Feeling the paint squish between the brush and the board or canvas - producing a juicy trail of colour or slick oil spill, encourages exploring the basic properties of the medium. And generates a feeling of freedom. I sometimes forget that I had a plan when I started the painting and veer off into tragedy or success. The tragedy is wasting thirty dollars worth of a good colour. The success is when that same colour results in spontaneously adding the final touch that makes the work stand out. And surprisingly, people actually like the results enough to buy the works.
