CASTLE KEEP - Animated Short

This film was commissioned by the Thunder Bay Police Department to aid first nations children in overcoming difficult emotions resulting after break-and-enter crimes. Dennis Austin wrote the script and hired me to direct and create images.

Set in medieval times, there is a mix of Canadian native and European medieval imagery. I used my brother's character home as the crime scene, adding turrets, an oversized damaged doorway, and a bridge. The original art work is watercolour on paper. I sketched a storyboard and layered paintings of foregrounds and backgrounds in Photoshop. George Renner and Sean McNulty put the imagery in motion. The police were overjoyed by the result. They were expecting stick figures to be animated.
