Children's
Picture Books - FLIGHT
This
story is such a good idea that I'm paranoid about revealing the
plot line. It is rich in metaphor and fun as hell to paint and write.
It was meant to be a standard fourteen page light morality tale,
but has turned into a novella with many characters, situations,
and surprises. It will take me up to four years to complete the
twenty-five or so paintings. Everything for this story has to be
well planned out in advance, because mistakes or changes will take
months to repair.
It
is a story meant to overcome racial stereotyping, promote our discerning
ability to use science and technology for good, suggest that dangerous
risks are worth taking when the results of actions can't be determined
when others are pleading for your help; and when you have the ability
to save another life it is a crime to let the opportunity pass you
by. The story suggests that the person you like the least could
turn out to be the one you love the most, for in a conflict true
character is revealed. And the story strongly states that even if
failure hits you hard, it is the daring attempt that makes you a
winner.
