Duncan Weller - Photography

Most of my photography is done for artistic projects as a means to an end. Occasionally I get a few good photographs with inherent merit. For nearly twenty years since high school I've had my own dark room and printed black and white photographs. I was never a purist, as I love playing with imagery on my computer. Often the imagery mixes functions, so this page represents personal, editorial, and commercial projects.

Feaver Fly
Constructed with lots of digital reworking from my own photos this was the first that inspired a series.

A Play in the End
Created for a brochure advertising a theatre's educational program, I used blocks in the classroom to tell a story.
This inspired a series I'm working towards completing next year.

Helen, a jeweler and performance artist, is ready to perform in the Ramayana play in Thunder Bay.

Block Party
Continuing with the block theme, I was one of three artists to paint the surface of a walkway to the harbourfront in Thunder Bay. I stopped a group of tourists and snapped pictures of them interacting with the blocks. I climbed up on the hand railing and the effort made for a great photo in it's own right.

Harajuku Girl in Bologna, Italy
This young Italian girl was born to Dutch parents in Italy, and told me she would be happy as a Japanese girl.
I saw a few Harajuku girls while in Europe.

his Governor General's Award for his novel, Divisidero.

All Our Wonder Unavenged.

National Gallery of Canada: Dancing Girls
In the modern art section a group of girls challenged the art by posing in each room and to announce themselves.
Playfully, they took issue with the barrenness of the spaces and the lack of humanity in the exhibits.

Steve Ball
In Steve's Seattle studio apartment with two of his close musician friends, Paul O'Rear and Ivan Lee,
I got a sampling of some of Steve's great music and bits of Yes. We are all fans.
