Children's Picture Books - The Ug and the Drip

The Ug and the Drip is set in a giant underground tube - but not where you think! The city in the middle of this tube is inhabited by "Residents" who are losing their minds. A drop of water is echoing so sharply at night that no one is able to sleep, that is until Dr. Yes makes his earmugs. The earmugs allow everyone to sleep at night, but this disrupts the Resident's symbiotic relationship with the giant creature who passes through the city once in while. Unable to hear the stomping footfalls of the giant green Ug, they are woken by the unbearably loud destruction of a few empty buildings. Dr. Yes is banished, but he sets out to find the Ug and educate him.

This story is for every child who delights in building up blocks and then knocking them down, and shows the greater value of learning to create rather than the easy and quick satisfaction one gets from destruction. It is also a story that explains that one of the great achievements of humanity through literature is our ability to empathize with people who are different from us.
