Children's Picture Books - Undercats

Undercats takes place underground. The cats who live in tunnels are planning to start a war with the humans above, but several cats throw a spanner in the plan when a human child is saved from a speeding car and brought below. The child quickly adapts to the cat culture and, in fact, thrives in it, to the horror of the cats who hate humans.

Undercats is an anti war story. The story states that nothing is entirely black and white, and it is possible to see in the dark. There are so many great anti war statements to make in the book that a list would be rather long. Suffice it to say that there is nothing good to say about war.

It will be great fun to illustrate. The illustrations will be done in black and white watercolours and pen and ink. The story and aesthetic philosophy for the illustrations was greatly influenced by a book called "Vision: The Biology of Seeing" by Margaret Livingstone and David H. Hubel.
